“Legally we have to tell you that you should always lock your car, so you should lock your car.”
Nice, were these the same lawyers who got you guys through Dieselgate?

Lol is that the fine print at the bottom?

Sure is, bud!

Between my tiny TV and potato phone I can’t read that stuff.
I was totally going to leave my stick shift car unlocked in the city until you told me though. Good job VW lawyers !

They posted this on the FP the other day. VW ads are still trying to be so quirky but they just can’t top their heyday.
One of my favorites when they first launched the facelifted 2001 Passat — their first real push into entry-luxury (it genuinely competed with C-class and cannibalized a lot of A4 and A6 sales). This is a good ad:

That joke is so old.

Well played, VW. Pandering to the tiny minority that will feel in on the joke and are also the target market for your manual, while making everyone else feel like the kid on the outside looking in and wanting to be let in to hang with the cool kids.
Well played indeed.

“Nah, It’s a stick shift.”
(leaves laptop on backseat)

Eh, I liked it.
Besides it’s nice to see a company touting manual availability on a sedan.

VW has a pretty long history of pretty good ads.

It
really
is.

No stick shift will deter the ants. That’s how you get ants! (And by ants, I mean everybody rummaging through your glovebox.)

Damn that’s awful. Killed over a stupid car. .

I’ve had ants in my car several times. It sucks.

“Nah, it’s a stick shift.”
“And I have the smart key in my pocket. ”
“And it’ll automatically lock itself after 5 minutes anyway.”
This ad is unfortunately preaching to a lamentably small audience rather than trying to sell an involving driving option to a larger unknowing audience.

I daily a manual Jetta, if someone were to carjack me I would toss them the keys and GTFO... I have a 95% chance that they won’t be able to drive it, and I’m 100% covered by insu rance.

Yeah that’s the best way to do it no matter what the car is.

I think they’re kind of doing both - pandering a bit to us, but also trying to sell a more involved driving experience. Note the tag line at the end.
And hell, I’m just happy they’re offering a stick in something other than a bare bones econobox or sports car.

One night I came out of the office to find someone had broken one of the rear
vent
windows
and climbed in from the back seat
to get
into my car. The thief tried to start it by sticking his own key in the ignition switch; he twisted it so hard it broke off in the lock. Then he stole a roll of quarters, which weren’t actually quarters, they were Sunshine Skyway tokens, and a broken pair of sunglasses, and he left
. I know he climbed in from the back seat
becau
se I saw a
foot print on my
briefcase in the back seat,
which had
my laptop computer in it
.

Nobody ever said thieves were smart.

I wasn’t exactly very
smart leaving my laptop in my car either, but
I sure
was lucky that the thief was even dumber than me.

Touche, my wife s’ car (new Forester) can be located with the My Subaru app, so that would be interesting if stolen... could just wait until they park and then steal it back.
